TPC KL The First Golf Club to Obtain Two ISO Certifications

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 November 2020 –TPC Kuala Lumpur (The Club) successfully attained two certifications earlier this month from SIRIM QAS International in the same year that it was recognised as a Top 100 Platinum Golf and Country Club 2020-2021 by the Platinum Clubs of the World as well as securing the number one spot for the Best Golf Courses in Malaysia by Golf Digest International.

TPC Kuala Lumpur was awarded the International Standard Organisation (ISO) 45001:2018, on Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHS) and ISO 50001:2018 on Energy Management System Compliance.

The recognition marks a great achievement for TPC Kuala Lumpur, the Leisure arm of master and lifestyle developer, Sime Darby Property, as it is the first golf club in Malaysia to receive both certifications.

Sime Darby Property Group Managing Director and KLGCC Berhad director Dato’ Azmir Merican said it was an honour for the Club to earn such high standards of certifications.

“The certifications are testaments to the Club’s efforts in developing and implementing sustainable business practices and our continuous endeavour to improve operations at the workplace for the benefit of our people and the planet. The achievement also speaks for our compliance to the industry’s best practices and our intention to remain as the leading premier Golf Club,” said Azmir.

Azmir added that TPC Kuala Lumpur is committed to upholding the industry’s standards and best practices.

ISO 45001:2018 - Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHS)

TPC Kuala Lumpur places great emphasis on its employees’ safety at work, and maintaining a zero-fatality rate at the workplace is one of the Club’s priorities. Risks at a Club may include incidents at the golf course, office, kitchen and even threats caused by wildlife.

The Club’s Health Safety Environment and Sustainability (HSES) Committee conducts regular risk assessment initiatives, monitor reports, and employs proactive methods to raise awareness of best practices at the workplace. The HSES Committee has contributed to an effective and systematic working culture within TPC Kuala Lumpur, and their initiatives have also successfully reduced the Club’s Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTI-R) to 75% between 2015 and 2019.

ISO 50001:2018 - Energy Management System Compliance

The standard is based on a Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle that focuses on continuous improvement and incorporates energy management into everyday organisational practices thus enabling cost reduction and less greenhouse gas emissions.

The ISO 50001 Certification is a testament to TPC Kuala Lumpur’s commitment to transforming the way the Club manages and improve energy performance through sustainable approaches.

The Club has been able to reduce an average of 13% Kilowatt (kWh) of electricity consumption since 2010 through several energy-saving approaches. The approaches include phasing out old bulbs and replacing them with LED bulbs, closely monitoring the energy efficiency of chillers, standardising the temperature at the workplace at 24 degree Celsius as well as educating and encouraging employees to play a part in conserving energy at the workplace.
